New Year Resolution: Earn More from My Website

Earn more from my website. Sounds like an obvious New Year resolution. But the truth is that I had it before on my list and never managed to make it happen. Somehow, there’s never enough time to improve the ad revenue. Or is there another way?

Earn More – Sharpen the Saw

Stephen R. Covey published the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in 1988.  With translations into 40 languages and sales of over 25 million copies worldwide, it is acknowledged as one of the top business and self-help books ever.

Under habit number 7, Covey tells the story of a man who works for 5 hours in the forest sawing down a tree. It’s hard work. When asked why wouldn’t he take a break to sharpen the saw, he replied that there wasn’t enough time for it. Clearly, if he would have stopped to sharpen the saw, the job would have taken less time and effort.

The lesson is the importance of taking the time to improve our tools. In Covey’s book the tool is ourselves. He recommends to invest time in self improvement.

It reminds me of a quote by Abraham Lincoln: “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe“.

For website publishers the saw is the monetization setup. The tool of the publisher to make money from the website is the system of technologies that sells the ad space on the website to advertisers. To earn more from the website, publishers need to take time to sharpen this tool.

Together with our business development team, I have been trying to partner with a publisher of a beautiful fashion website and forum community. The website has been operating since 2005 and it has about 3 million visitors each month with high engagement.

After several talks and analyzing their data, I know for a fact that working with Adnimation they will be earning at least 40% more from better ad sales. There is definitely mutual interest. But every time we get to the implementation phase, the owners sincerely say that they are too busy for it and ask for more time.

I believe them, we’re all too busy these days. And so as a New Year resolution, I commit to make the time to sharpen the saw.

How 2 Hours Give a Publisher More Time and Money

In his monumental book, Covey writes that we don’t have time not to sharpen the saw. In terms of this publisher, not taking the time to partner with us means that they continue to earn less than their potential.

If they take just 2 hours of their busy schedule to finalize the partnership – 2 hours max! – our team will actually generate for them them two precious benefits. First, we will take care of all ad sales and ad technologies, removing this burden of their shoulders and thus freeing up hours of their workday. Wouldn’t it take much more time to handle issues like adding ads.txt to your website? Sure it will and we can do this for the publisher as well.

Second, they will be earning higher ad revenue and so they will also have more money available to invest in the website.

A short time investment, as hard as it is to find, will give them eventually more free time and more available money.

New Year Resolution: Find Time to Earn More

Personally, I plan to sharpen my saw this year. Clear time intentionally to improve my tools, both body and mind.

For publishers, on the professional level, I recommend to do the same. There is never enough time to dive into the programmatic ad sales process. But the truth is that there isn’t enough time not to do so.

Most of all, take a couple of hours, talk to us. The process is much easier than it seems. One call, 2-page standard agreement, copy-paste a few codes. The entire process can take 2 hours. In complicated cases, perhaps half a day in total. From there on, we do the work, you keep control with full transparency and personal support. And the results will include more free time and earning higher ad revenues.

Happy New Year!
